Jay Marathon Madness
The results for the Jay Marathon are finally posted at: http://www.ultimatexc.com/results/MARRESULT.xls Only 218 finishers out of 400
Well, 5 of us went, we saw and we conquered (or maybe we were conquered). Any way you look at it I think all 5 of us will say that it was the most difficult race we have ever finished. At least we were able to finish, for some that wasn't the case. Apparently the 5 hour cut off limit at the 19 mile mark was strictly enforced even though the course was tougher, 7 days of rain prior to the race created more mud, water etc. That meant a lot of competitors were pulled off the course. As it was Scott and Oliver only made the cut off by minutes. As difficult as it was we did what we accomplished, finished and laughed about it, and had a Guinness afterwards.
Finish times were Kevin O'Neill - 7:26, Keith Lascelles - 7:33, Jamie Nielsen - 7:36, Scott Whynot & Oliver Owens - 9:15. The mud, the walk up the mountain, the brook running, the beaver swamp, the river crossing all made this a memorable experience. Look for pictures coming soon.

This Weekend
This weeknd will see 5 of our members, who have been christened "The Jay Peak Nutbars", travel to Jay, Vermont to compete in the Jay Mountain Marathon. This crazy race is actually 33 miles (53k) of mud, swamp, mud, a mountain, mud, bushwalking, mud, brook running, mud, river crossing, mud and climbing, oh yeah and there maybe a bit of mud. After this weeks "lovely" weather the mud should be nice and deep. Luckily they say mud is good for the complexion so you should see an improvement in the looks of Kevin, Keith, Jamie, Oliver and Scott when they get back, if they survive.
For info about the race and to read some of the past race reviews follow this link:
