What an awesome day! Bravo to the organizers. I think that this has quickly become a premier event: lovely course, awesome organization, great perks (chocolate and burly men!), on-site mini expo, unique "medal..."
Barrie was well represented including some category awards: well done ladies!
It's been a long time since Toronto had a women's event of this calibre (who remembers Brooks in the '80's?) and it was worth the wait.
Keep an eye on registration for next year as today's run was full within weeks by last full.

Mississauga Marathon & Half
Looks Barrie and area we're well represented at the Mississauga Marathon this morning with some good times, Alan Hewson finishing the marahon in 3:45 ( I think he is a little happy). Rick MacLean and Snadra Lalonde should be congratulated for completing the half in under 2 hours, after yesterdays muddy 25k at the Pick Your Poison trail races. That's 46.1k each. For all the results follow the links below.

Pick Your Poison
What started out to be a beautiful morning, quickly turned into a muddy quagmire. At the inaugural Pick Your Poison trail races quite few RoadRunners took on the challenge. The race was only 5 minutes old when the rain started and for the first 25k it more or less poured down. First impressions were that the course was challenging, but at the same time a good course for trail running. a lot of single track. Unfortunately, because of the rain the condistions dictated that this race would be a race of atrition. The majority of our runners were competing in the 25k race, for some their first attempt at a trail race of this distance. All finished and were happy with that (at this point results haven't been posted). as this is a 12.5k loop course everyone doing the loop a second, third or fourth time found the footing got steadily worse. For most of us this was a run to test ourselves not so much a race and this played a part in the 50k particpants finishes or non- finishes. Non of our 50k competitors finsihed the race, Kevin O'Neill and Oliver Owens giving up after 2 laps, Kevin after a fall. Keith Lascelles almost finsihed the third lap.
Our successfull 25k finishers were, Terry McFarlane, Sandra Lalonde, Hellaina Rothenburg, Krista Bolyea (1st female)and Rick MacLean. See the slideshow for some pictures.
