What started out to be a beautiful morning, quickly turned into a muddy quagmire. At the inaugural Pick Your Poison trail races quite few RoadRunners took on the challenge. The race was only 5 minutes old when the rain started and for the first 25k it more or less poured down. First impressions were that the course was challenging, but at the same time a good course for trail running. a lot of single track. Unfortunately, because of the rain the condistions dictated that this race would be a race of atrition. The majority of our runners were competing in the 25k race, for some their first attempt at a trail race of this distance. All finished and were happy with that (at this point results haven't been posted). as this is a 12.5k loop course everyone doing the loop a second, third or fourth time found the footing got steadily worse. For most of us this was a run to test ourselves not so much a race and this played a part in the 50k particpants finishes or non- finishes. Non of our 50k competitors finsihed the race, Kevin O'Neill and Oliver Owens giving up after 2 laps, Kevin after a fall. Keith Lascelles almost finsihed the third lap.
Our successfull 25k finishers were, Terry McFarlane, Sandra Lalonde, Hellaina Rothenburg, Krista Bolyea (1st female)and Rick MacLean. See the slideshow for some pictures.
