Quebec Ultimate XC

For anyone still on the fence about Quebec Ultimate XC, there are still spaces available in all races. Below is an excert from the latest e-mail form the race director:

Since the number of participants is limited for each race, please take note that there are only ten 10 spots left for the 10km, 40 spots for the ½ marathon and 50 spots for the 50km. If you have friends interested in coming to play in the great outdoors with us, make sure they register as soon as possible. They won't want to miss the boat and will be more than happy to be part of this marvelous adventure! Hope to see you many with your friends, and all in great shape!

Are You a Maniac?

Are you addicted to running marathons?

Do your thoughts switch to the next scheduled race immediately after finishing a marathon?

Are you signed up for more than one race right now?

Do you know specifics about many of the marathons? Dates, courses, years run, etc.?

Do you know the story of how the marathon got started? Also why the course is 26.2 miles?

Do you read books on marathons like Marathon and Beyond?

Is www.marathonguide.com book marked on your computer? Do you look at the race schedule more than once a week?

Do you start to feel down when you haven't run a marathon in a while?

Are your closets and dressers filled with marathon t-shirts?

Do you have so many marathon medals that you've run out of room on the hook they hang from?

When asked about your racing from none running people, do you find yourself talking with great passion to the point that the person that asked the question regrets ever asking?

Have you run marathons on back to back weekends? Or better yet back to back days?

Have you run a marathon as a training run? Or just to pace a friend?

When asked by loved ones what your plans are for the weekend, you feel guilty telling them your running another marathon so you tell them "it's only a half this weekend"?

Do you plan all your vacations around a marathon race?

Well if you answered yes to any of these questions, you just may be a Marathon Maniac!!!

Marathon Maniacs is a group with a interesting web site (Marathon Maniacs)

I'm not sure if they have a 12 step program or may be it is a 26.2 step program.

Country Music Marathon

On hot (90f) day in Nashville, Bill Lovett, Rick MacLean and Keith Lascelles ran in the 10th annual Country Music Marathon with 32,000 other competitors (4,000 in the marathon) on Saturday. A very well organized event, from the expo through to the finish, the Nashville edition of the Rock'n'Roll series delivered on all accounts except the terrain and the temperatures. Record temperatures even for this far south greeted runners for the 7am start. By mid morning temperatures were well into the 80s, but the race officials were well prepared. The one one thing we were not prepared for was the hills. The first half is all hills, up and down, and not just little rises, but long and steep hills. Bill's attempt at qualifying for Boston came off the rails at about 8-9 miles in, the hills had taken their toll on his wonky knee, the second half was just hilly and hot. Regardless a good time was had by all especailly in the bar afterwards. Good food and good beer. We were asleep by 10pm.

Results:

Keith 3:27 placed 132nd, 10th in age.
Bill 4:19 placed 1021st.
Rick 5:00 placed 2339th.

Boston Results

Congratulations to all our Boston Runners, here are the results.

Rick Ball & Amputee world record in Boston

April 21st -

Just had some clarification that although Rick missed the world record for amputee in a marathon he did break the world record for single Amputees.

April 20th -

Thank you to Scott Rigsby for correcting us on the fact that the Amputee World record was recently broken by Richard Whitehead of Nottingham, Uk on March 23rd in Rome. 2 hours and 57 minutes. Amazing.
Rick did break the old world record of 3 hours and 4 minutes and won a head to head race with Richard, winning by 1 minute.
Thanks again Scott. For more info and links see the comment at the bottom of this post.

Rick Ball of Orillia, who many of you know ran the Boston Marathon this morning and broke the world amputee Marathon record. Although he came short of his goal of going sub 3, an amazing effort.
