Around the Bay 30k Weekend

Good luck to all those going to Hamilton this weekend for the Around the Bay Road Race. There is a multitude of RoadRunners going.

Twenty Valley Niagara Wine Country Run

Runners of all abilities are invited to experience wine country like never before!
Explore stunning vineyards and sample Niagara's Twenty Valley premium wines including Henry of Pelham, Featherstone Estate Winery, Tawse Winery, Lakeview Cellars, EastDell Estates, Flat Rock Cellars, Mountain Road Wine Company at the 1st annual Twenty Valley Niagara Wine Country Run -June 13th & June 14th .

On Saturday June 13th the Runner's Expo will take place at the Beamsville Centennial Arena. Bus tours of the race route and participating wineries will be offered throughout the day. The Saturday evening BBQ will be the perfect destination for runner's and the Twenty Valley Community to wine & dine before race day.

Expected to attract over 5000 runners on race day, Sunday June 14th , the events begins at 11am with the 10K & followed by the Half Marathon , Half Marathon Relay (2 & 4 member teams) and 4K Stroll/ Walk starting at 11:15am.

Choosing between a Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to sample could be the hardest choice runners will make throughout the weekend, as each winery will be showcasing distinct varietals at the Runner's Expo, as well as along the picturesque course and at the finish line area street party in downtown Jordan.

Yuengling Shamrock Sportsfest Marathon

Congratulations to Roger Ison, who continued his quest to run a Marathon a month this year. This morning he finished the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon in Virginia Beach in a time of 3:37. All 3 Marathons have been run within 7 minutes of each other. 3:31 in Mobile, Alabama and 3:38 in Tampa.

RoadRunners Shirt Polls

We now have the shirt colours and have a poll on this page to vote for what colour you like. Pictures of the various coloured shirts are below. There will be one colour for the "girls" and one for the "boys". Once colours are decided upon, then orders for different styles will be sorted out. Click on a picture for a larger view.

Catching Up on Results

While I was away, we had a couple of events with RoadRunners participating. As we've seen on previous posts the Chilly hald took place in Burlington on March 1st. Here are links to the results:

Half Marathon
Half Marathon Walk
Frosty 5k

Also on Sunday the 1st, Roger Ison ran the The Bank of America Marathon in Tampa in horrendous conditions, high winds and torrential rains. But besides this Roger still ran a 3:38 Marathon and finished 6th in his age group.

Quebec Ultimate XC Correction

Previously we had posted an item regarding Jay Vermont edition of the Ultimate XC series being cancelled. In fact the Vermont Editon has been merged with the Quebec Edition that will take place in Mont Tremblant Quebec. Hope this didn't confuse anyone. The Web site can be found here - Ultimate XC
We have a number of runners already signed up and this race is sure to sell out soon.

New York City Marathon

From Catherine Harding:

Does anyone have interest in running the NEW YORK CITY MARATHON? I have access to a great tour that will include accommodations and entrance to the race. There are packages with flights as well OR we can look at car pooling which is usually more economical .. the drive isn't too bad. Please message me on Facebook or at cath.harding@gmail.com ASAP as I will need to let the organizers know how many are interested by Wednesday.

80

That's how many people from Barrie ran the 2009 Chilly Half Marathon in Burlington. I would say an impressive showing. Congratulations to all who ran & made the Barrie Road Runners proud. Congrats to Scott Whynot, Terry MacFarlane, Gary Dorian, Allan Johnston, Cindy Lynch & Rick Johnston. In particular, I'd like to single out Theo Bosch because it's fun to do so. Theo ran a PB 1:37;33 coming in 33 out of 206 in his age group. Theo well deserved. Congratulations!
